Does your loved one have aphasia? Are you struggling with how to help them at home?

This week's video shows you how to use "Very Easy True Stories" by Sandra Heyer for at-home speech therapy practice.

This video includes multiple levels of difficulty and specific tips for success.

🧰 RESOURCE

There aren't a ton of resources made specifically for adults with aphasia, so sometimes you have to get creative!

I often repurpose ESL materials for my clients. One of my favorite resources (that is technically for English language learners) is "Very Easy True Stories" by Sandra Heyer.

It has short stories that are adapted from newspaper and magazine articles. I often use it as a starting point for clients who have a goal of "reading the news" (when reading is still pretty tricky).

The best part? Every single sentence has a picture that goes with it. Perfect for people with aphasia! 🙌

💪 ACTION

Set aside just 10 minutes a day for communication practice. Use a timer!

This could be

1) reading out loud

2) naming objects around you

3) repeating phrases from a video

4) chatting with a friend

Small, consistent steps lead to big progress over time. You can do it!

🎉 KUDOS

To celebrate, I'm also offering a limited number of FREE "Community Cheers". Get a personalized shout-out in one of my upcoming YouTube videos for yourself or a loved one from my ko-fi page.
